Lilith. The name alone evokes an array of emotions—mystery, fear, power, rebellion. For centuries, she has been demonized in religious and mythological traditions, but in recent years, her story has been reclaimed by those seeking a deeper understanding of female independence, rebellion, and the shadow side of human nature. But what if Lilith isn’t just a myth? What if her energy, her presence, is still around, affecting people today?
I’m not one to get caught up in myths. I’ve always approached the supernatural with a healthy dose of skepticism, even though my interests often dive into cryptids, conspiracies, and the strange. But recently, my encounters with what I can only describe as Lilith—or an energy deeply influenced by her—have shaken me, forcing me to confront the idea that some ancient forces aren’t as far removed from our modern world as we’d like to think.
Who Is Lilith?
Before I dive into my experiences, let’s cover the basics for those who might not be familiar. Lilith's story has roots in several different traditions. In Jewish folklore, she’s often regarded as Adam’s first wife, created from the same earth as Adam, not from his rib like Eve. The myth goes that she refused to submit to Adam, asserting her equality and eventually leaving the Garden of Eden. Over time, she’s become associated with night demons, seduction, and the untamed feminine power that refuses to be controlled.
Lilith also appears in Mesopotamian mythology as a type of night demon, and her influence stretches into modern interpretations, where she’s sometimes seen as a symbol of feminine autonomy and rebellion against patriarchal structures. One of her key symbols is the owl, a nocturnal creature representing wisdom, mystery, and a connection to the darker forces of nature.
My First Encounter with Lilith’s Energy
One night, I was editing an episode of Broadcasting Seeds with YouTube running in the background. I fell asleep on the couch, as happens sometimes after long nights of work. When I woke up, it was exactly 12:00 am—midnight. Immediately, something felt off. The podcast episode playing was The Confessionals Podcast: Episode 657 - Lilith Comes Calling. Talk about unsettling timing.
Shaking off the fog of sleep, I got up to get some water and head to bed. As I passed my back door, which leads out to the deck and backyard, I realized it was open. And right as I walked by, I heard an owl hooting in the yard.
Now, this might not sound like a big deal to most people, but I’ve lived here for five years and never once heard an owl in these woods. The moment I heard that hoot, something deep inside me reacted. It wasn’t just an owl—it was something else, something I felt more than I heard. I immediately went out onto the deck, rebuking whatever was out there in the name of God and Jesus. I knew this wasn’t just wildlife; I could feel it retreating further into the woods as I spoke. Then, it—or something—let out an awful scream, like a wounded animal.
I’m not going to lie. I was scared. I went back inside, locked up, and said a prayer of protection before heading to bed. The rest of the night was uneventful, but that sense of unease stayed with me. The next morning, around 8 am, I was outside putting the cover back on my smoker. I had the podcast episode playing again on speaker because I wanted to hear what I’d missed. Within two minutes of it playing, the owl started hooting and screaming again in the woods.
Coincidence? I don’t think so.
The Second Encounter: Lilith in My Dreams
A few nights later, things escalated. I had a nightmare where a Lilith-like figure was abusing me in a sexual manner. Now, this is personal, but it’s important to mention—I have a history of childhood sexual abuse, and looking back, I realize this entity or energy had been around before, influencing those traumatic events. In the dream, I knew it wasn’t just a random figure; it was Lilith or something heavily tied to her.
I woke up in a panic at exactly 3:49 am. That specific time stuck with me. I couldn’t shake it. After getting up to use the bathroom, I tried to go back to sleep, but I was overwhelmed by a sense of dread. It was as if the energy from the dream followed me into waking life. So, I pulled out my phone and started reading a prayer of protection, trying to shake off the feeling.
As I recited the prayer, I got chills all over my body. My wife woke up, reaching over to check if I was okay, which grounded me a bit. But I couldn’t shake the feeling, so I went downstairs to make coffee and clear my head.
As soon as I got to the kitchen sink, I heard it again—the owl, hooting right in my yard. I actually smiled at that point and said, “There she is.” It felt like an old foe showing up again, this time knowing I was ready. I picked up my phone and began to read aloud a prayer for renouncing Lilith. I moved to the back door, raised my voice as I recited the prayer, and that’s when the owl went nuts. It hooted louder and faster, and I could feel whatever it was retreating. Eventually, it was gone.
By the end of it, I was exhausted, but I felt lighter—like I had won a battle I didn’t even know I was fighting.
What’s the Significance of 3:49?
I couldn’t shake the time I woke up: 3:49 am. Something about it nagged at me, and I felt compelled to look it up. I was drawn to Genesis 3:4-9, which reads:
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
This passage is all about temptation, knowledge, and the consequences of stepping outside of divine protection. The serpent’s promise to Eve that eating the forbidden fruit would open her eyes echoes Lilith’s themes of rebellion and the pursuit of forbidden knowledge. Just like Eve, my eyes were opened, but to what? To a dark energy that has haunted humanity for centuries? To something that tries to tempt us away from the divine?
Final Thoughts: Lilith’s Presence Today
So, what do I make of all this? I can’t say for certain that what I experienced was Lilith herself, but there’s no denying the eerie connections between these events and the ancient myth. The owl, the timing, the dreams, and the spiritual battle that unfolded all point to something deeper.
Lilith may be a mythological figure, but her energy—her influence—is real. Whether you see her as a symbol of rebellion or as a dark force trying to pull people away from the light, she’s a reminder that the battle between good and evil, between temptation and righteousness, is ongoing.
My experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of spiritual protection and the need to stay vigilant, especially when confronted by forces that seem beyond our control. I hope my story encourages others to recognize the signs and stand firm in their own battles, whatever form they may take.
In the end, Lilith may come calling, but it’s up to us to decide how we respond.
